كان الفندق قديماً ومتداعياً، ولكن بالنسبة لمديره السويسري المولد هيوغ مارتن كان الماسة دفينة في أحد شوارع نيويورك الهادئة. لذلك سعى لتدبير ما أمكنه من مال لشراء المبنى وتحويله إلى واحد من أرقى الفنادق في العالم. تحت إدارة هيوغ الحكيمة وإشرافه المباشرين عاد الألق إلى فندق الفاندوم وذاع صيت خدمته وفخامته، وتحوّل مقصداً للأثرياء والمشاهير، ومنزلاً ممتاز لعائلة هيوغ، إلى أن هجرته زوجته الشابة، تاركة له ابنة في الرابعة من عمرها. رغم هذا، نشأت هلويز في أجواء سعيدة محاطة بالمشاهير والشخصيات الاجتماعية والسياسية والمسافرين وموظفي الفندق الذين كانت موضع حبهم. مع مرور السنوات وبروز تحديات عديدة غير مُنتظرة تحوَّل الفندق وهيوغ إلى محور حياة هلويز، وتولّد لديها طموح كبير لتسير على خطى والدها لتدير فندق الفاندوم مستقبلاً، حين ستمكّنها الدروس التي تلقنتها على يديه من المرور عبر جميع المطبات والعراقيل التي ستعترضها، ولتحيك رواية لن ينساها أي قارئ.
