في عملها الروائي «وأد الذاكرة» تقف أماني الشهري على حافة الذاكرة، تحاول القبض على لحظات متصرمة؛ حملتها في قلبها وحفرت حروفها على الورق حكاية حبّ لم يبقى منها سوى آثار حبّ تمرّغ بحبر الكتابة ورسائل تبوح فيها بسرّ القلب وأنينه ما يذكرنا بكلام "مدام دوستيل" المعروف: "الحب هو تاريخ المرأة وليس إلا حادثاً عابراً في حياة الرجل".
في اللافتة النصية الأولى التي تصدرت العمل تقول أماني: "هل يمكن لي اليوم بعد أن قطعت بيننا الأيام جسور الكلام أن أقاوم الرغبة الجنونية في كتابة حكايتك.. كما عشتُها معك ودونك.. بعد ذلك بسنوات.. رغبة.. وعشقاً.. وحلماً؟!".
وبين البداية والنهاية نقرأ حكاية امرأة مسيرة من حرفها، من ثورتها، ومن ضجيجها وسكونها، لذلك هي رواية عن المرأة ومنها، عن المرأة/ الكاتبة كيف تروي ذاتها، ما يدور في أعماقها، وما يختلج وجدانها في حالاتها المختلفة. "لقد فهمت في وقت متأخرٍ جداً أنّ الذاكرة لا تموت بأيدينا بل مُنتحرة! وأنّ ذكرى الموت تماماً كذكرى الميلاد، بأحدها نحتفي ونختفي بالآخر... وأنني منذ ابتدأتُ كتابتكَ أسَّسْتُ خلودكَ وعِدة تناقضات...
لا.. لم أَئِد ذاكرتي بكَ كما كنت أتمنى.. ربما لأنني لا أحيا دون أنْ أكتُب.. ولأنك تعرف أين تَضرِب.. أنتَ باقٍ وأنا أكتُب...".
وبهذا المعنى فنحن في "وأد الذاكرة" لسنا أمام حكاية رئيسية لشخصيات متعددة تلعب دور البطولة في الرواية، بل نحن أمام حكاية خاصة تكشف عن الدور الذي يلعبه الحب في حياة المرأة وخاصة أن الكاتبة نجحت في التغلغل إلى نفسية المرأة وأفكارها، ووصفها حالة (الفقد والغياب)، فقدمت بذلك الرواية كماً كبيراً من ثقافة التحليل النفسي، الذي عكس ثقافة صاحبتها، وربما تجربتها وشيئاً من سيرتها الذاتية، على أن هذا التحليل ينوجد في الرواية من خلال الوحدات السردية المتعاقبة في خط درامي متصاعد، وكثيراً ما تسلم نهاية وحدة سردية عملية السرد إلى وحدة أخرى جديدة تكمل ما سبق، إلا أنه في السياق العام ثمة تسلسل وقائعي، واستخدام لتقنيات الاسترجاع والتذكر، أما اللغة التي كُتبت فيها الرواية فهي لغة أنيقة جميلة تقترب من حدود الشعر، ما يجعل من العمل قصيدة روائية، وبذلك حققت أماني الشهري متعة مزدوجة للقارئ هي متعة اللغة، ومتعة السّرد، وجعلت من "وأد الذاكرة" حكاية كل عاشق.
