تؤسس رواية "ابنة الثلج" للروائي العراقي أحمد هاشم- ومنذ عتبة الإهداء وعياً بأن الفرد وليس المجتمع هو من يجب أن يشغل مركز البصيرة الأدبية؛ لينتهي بأن يكلل بالغار، عبر انتصار قيم الحب، على خلاف صوت المجتمع الذي يدفع بالواجب إلى مركز الصدارة، فكما في روايات مثل أحدب نوتردام وملحمة الغجر، يجب أن تعيد الرواية تمجيد قيم الحرية والمشاعر الإنسانية في خروج الفرد من عباءة مجتمعه، وتحوله إلى أنموذج للبطل النهلستي الذي يسعى لتغيير صنمية المجتمع الذي يفرض الوصاية على الإنسان، لكن الدعوة هنا في ابنة الثلج تنطلق من أفق أضيق مما كان يقوم به أبطال تورغنيف النهلستيون، بما تعنيه من ثقافة إنسانية داعية إلى الحرية (الحرية الحقيقية هي أن لا تخاف الموت).. لذلك؛ فالرواية في "ابنة الثلج" تنهض على ثيمة الحب، التي تنشأ من منطقة اللاتكافؤ بين إنجيلا وهي فتاة (روسية) تعمل في نادٍ ليلي، ورجل لا يحمل اسما يبدو من تفاصيل الرواية أنه (عراقي)، والكاتب يسعى هنا إلى إقامة العلاقة على أساس المفارقة والاختلاف؛ ليتمكن من معالجة الاطار الإنساني المتأرجح بين ثنائية الاتصال والانقطاع. وهي ثنائية تسندها إشارات من قبيل تلاعب الكاتب بدلالات الشمس والثلج وخلق مفارقة تفضي إلى خلخلة العلاقة السابقة بين المفردتين عبر تجريد الشمس في بلاده من دلالة الدفء والاكتفاء بدلالة الشيء والحرق والموت المجاني، في حين يأتي الثلج في بلد الحبيبة حاملاً لمعنى الدفء؛ فالكاتب أراد أن يفتح عبر ثنائية بلاد الشمس وبلاد الثلج؛ قراءة للإنسان وهو يؤسس لثقافة التقاطع والقتل، والإنسان في بعده المشترك في سعيه لتبني ثقافة.
