الرهان على الذات في مواجهة التسليم القدري والفعل الإنساني المزاوج للتسليم هو ما يقطعه بطل رواية "متعايش في الرياض" للكاتبان عبد الله صايل ومبارك بن علي الدعيلج يسرُدا من خلالها قصة مرضٍ مجهض، أدركه صاحبه في لحظة كانت فيها السعادة تغمره، فإذا به يجد نفسه أمام مسار خاص مختلف يقف فيه على حافة الحياة!
وهكذا تتبدد أحلام "خالد" قبل زواجه من ابنة عمه "نورة" بأيام عندما يعرف أنه مصاب بمرض نقص المناعة "الإيدز" الذي انتقل إليه عن طريق إجراء عمليات متتابعة لإصابته بمرض شلل الأطفال، فهل يستطيع خالد لململة ما تبدد والقبض على ما تصرّم أم يتعايش مع المرض ويبحث عن أبواب أخرى للحياة والسعادة؟
في هذا الإطار ترصد الرواية طبيعة العلاقة بين من يصاب بهذا المرض "الإيدز" والآخرين، عبر مجموعة من الشخصيات المكملة للحدث، وهم الأهل والأصدقاء والأطباء، وأهمية دورهم في تغيير حياة المريض، وهو ما يعبرِّ عنه السارد بتساؤله: "لم أعد أدري هل أنا بين الأحياء أم الأموات؟ هل سأموت قريباً دون أن أتزوج أو أصبح أباً؟ هذا إن لم يتم القبض عليَّ وعزلي وفضيحتي.. من أين الإصابة أيها الأخصائي؟ إنني أخاف الله والله إني أخاف الله.. أنا لم أقم علاقة محرمة ولا أتعاطى مخدرات. أخبرني هل سأموت قريباً..؟
كنت أصرخ بصوت مكتوم لا يسمعه أحد وسط أنَّات دموعي التي أبكت الاخصائي معي وقال لي: تعوذ بالله من الشيطان وهذا قدر الله وابتلاؤه وما يبتلى إلا المؤمن".
وبعد، وعلى رغم مناخ التيه والحزن الذي تشيعه هذه الرواية، والذي هو انعكاس للواقع بمعنى ما، فإن في الحياة أكثر من بقعة ضوء، إذا ما بحثنا عنها سنجدها، كما وجدها بطل الرواية حينما وجد من ستكون بلسماً لجراحه، "يكفي أن نكون جريحين يداوي كل منا صاحبه".
