بعد تلقيه رسالة غريبة وغامضة من صديقته القديمة كاثرينا، سافر رولف العالم السابق والمشارك في تجارب التخصيب النازية على وجه السرعة وبسرية تامَة إلى ألمانيا لمقابلة صديقته. وهناك، تم خطفه من قبل جهة غامضة تمكنت من إماطة اللثام عن تاريخه السري الحافل الذي سعى إلى إخفائه عن الجميع؛ ولاسيما أقرب الناس إليه، ابنه إيريك.
وعلى إثر اختفاء رولف المفاجئ والغامض، بدأ إيريك رحلة البحث عن أبيه، واكتشف خلال ذلك حقائق سرية وصادمة غيَرت نظرته إلى والديه؛ وخاصة أمه العالمة التي اعتبرها دائماً مثاله الأعلى في الحياة، وسعى إلى الاقتداء بها، والتخصص مثلها. غير أن صدمته الكبرى كانت عندما عرف الخطة المحكمة التي نسجتها المخابرات الأميركية، والتي سعت من خلالها إلى تبرير هجوم تريد شنه على العراق بذريعة امتلاكه أسلحة دمار شامل؛ مورِّطةً بعض الأفراد ذوي الأصول العربية في مؤامرتها.
غير أن السحر ينقلب على الساحر عندما يدرك أولئك الشبان ذوو الأصول العربية أنه يتم استغلالهم، فيخططون لاستعمال اليورانيوم المخصّب الذي حصلوا عليه في عمليتي تفجير مختلفتين تحصلان على الأراضي البريطانية. عندها، يصبح من الضروري تعاون الشرطة البريطانية والألمانية لإحباط مخططهم، ولا ينجحون في ذلك إلاّ بمساعدة إيريك الذي اضطرته الظروف إلى خوض مغامرة خطيرة.
إيليكا ريميس (المولود في 13 ديسمبر 1962) كاتب فنلندي للروايات البوليسية والأدبية الخاصة بالشباب. ولد ريميس في لوماكي باسم بيتري بيكالا. يقول إنه يستخدم اسماً مستعاراً؛ إذ لا يريد اعتباره مؤلفاً للروايات البوليسية حصراً، وإنما يريد أن يتمكن من تأليف أنواع أخرى من الكتب في المستقبل.
يعيش ريميس في بلجيكا مع زوجته وولديه. نال جائزة آداب كاليفي جانتي عام 1977، وجائزة العام من جمعية الروايات البوليسية الفنلندية عام 1999، وجائزة الآداب من مؤسسة أولفي عام 1999.
