أن تولد مرة ثانية، يعني أنك أصبحت إنساناً آخر غير الذي تعرفه عنك. ولكن الولادة لا تمرّ من دون مخاض التجربة، وتجربة (الولادة مرتين) يخضعها سعود الحمد لامتحان قاسٍ، النجاح فيه دونه عقبات، منها ما يتعلق بخصائص المجتمع، ومنها ما يتعلق بتكوين الفرد السيكولوجي والثقافي والبيئي.. وهو ما أدركه الروائي الحمد في اشتغاله على نص يتعلق بالعلاقات الأسرَّية وأبعادها النفسيَّة على المرأة والرجل معاً.
يعرض (الحمد) روايته - بوصفه مبدعاً - بأسلوب ماتعٍ، لائقٍ، لا يميز القارئ خلاله سرده النقدي من سرده الحكائي، ولكن على طريقة الرومانسيين الذين يفضلون الهرب من الواقع المقيد إلى آخر أكثر حرية؛ لذلك فهو يترك لشخصياته الحرية في الحركة واتخاذ القرار والتعبير حتى أنه يتيح للقارئ التعرف على شخصياته وحوادث عمله السردي بوضوح، ويفعل ذلك عن طريق بطله "وائل" الطبيب النفسي الذي يتعرض لموقف أخلاقي عليه أن يختار فيه بين حياته الشخصية وحياته المهنية، يحصل هذا عندما تطرق باب عيادته النفسية في (الخبر) أمٌ برفقة ابنتها المريضة "سلمى" بهدف العلاج بعدما تأزمت حالتها النفسية بسبب طلاقها من زوجها الذي وعلى الرغم من كونها تزوجته من دون موافقة أهلها، طلّقها، وبعد جلسة العلاج الأولى تُخبر الأم الطبيب أنها لا تستطيع متابعة علاج ابنتها لأن العائلة ترفض أن يشاع عن ابنتهم أنها تعاني من مرض نفسي.. ولحل هذه المشكلة ومتابعة العلاج، تطرأ فكرة برأس صديقٍ للطبيب يدعى "رأفت" تتمثل بعقد قرانه أي "وائل" على المريضة صورياً.. بقصد العلاج .. يوافق "وائل" بعدما خاب أمله في "ريم" المرأة التي أحب والتي خضعت لإرادة الأهل بالابتعاد عنه والزواج من غيره..
تبدأ بعد ذلك رحلة العلاج بين سلمى ووائل؛ والتي سوف تتحول بمرور الأيام من علاج إلى حب... ولكن للأقدار حكمتها... بعد فترة تعود "ريم" مطلقة لتظهر في حياة الطبيب مجدداً.. وما على قلب العاشق ألا أن يختار!!
