فــ"جيورجيو كولي" عمل من خلال هذا الكتاب على تقويض ما هو سائد، ورفض القوالب الجاهزة، التي تؤخذ كمسلمات، وعمل على قلب رؤيتنا للفلسفة، فلم تعد تنتمي إلى العقلانية اليونانية، بل هي لا تمت بصلة لها، لأنّها أسست في معابد الآلهة وفي معارج الحكماء، وكانت عبارةً عن كلام شفاهي، يحمل في طياته الإسرار، حتى إذا ما جاء أفلاطون نقلها إلى الكتابي وأعطاها شكلها الحالي، ثم تلاه أرسطو، وسار على خطاه، بل أنّه تقدم عليه بخطوة عندما وضع تاريخاً جديداً للفلسفة، يبدأ مع الفلاسفة الطبيعيين، وهذا الإصطناع لتاريخ موهوم ضلّل الأصول، وعمل على تعميتها.
