وحيد ينجو من موت محقق في حادثة الطريق ليكمل طريقه الأصعب في وطن تستنفذ الحرب كل شيء فيه.
يعود إلى مأرب يرصد بقلمه خساراته التي لا تنتهي في أصدقائه وبلده وحبه المستحيل.
وهناك يعذبه اليأس وهو يتشبث بحلم الوطن الغائب.

"... أنا التي تقضي نصف حياتها تحكي لك كيف تعيش النصف الآخر دونك؛ تقربني متى شئت؛ وتلغي وجودي متى أردت. لم أكن لأصدق أنك تحيي وتميت وأن بيدك الجنة والجحيم حتى عايشت لحظاتها؛ ولم أكن أدري أن إيماني بك هو سبب عقابي. لطالما كنت كأنثى حالمة تتمنى ان تصادف رجلها.. فقط أتمنى أن أصادفه كي أصنع منه تمثالاً من الجمال وأعبده حباً؛ ذلك الذي سيراني كما أراه فقط. كنت أرى الرجال جدران صماء.. جدران تخنق ولا تحمي.. يمكنها أن تنقض فتهرسني في أي لحظة أقف في طريقها؛ لم أثق في جدار كي أتكئ عليه؛ لكنني أتأمل في السقف كثيراً. أنت فقط هو السقف المرتفع.. سقف أمنياتي.. سقف حمايتي.. سقف أحلامي...".
