في روايته «باسم الشعب» يسلط الكاتب زو مايسن الضوء ببراعة على قضايا الفساد، ويختار لعالمه الروائي مقاطعة افتراضية هادئة في بكين تسمى المقاطعة "إيتش". وتبدأ أولى مشاهد الرواية بمحاولة النيابة العامة القبض على المسؤول "دينغ يجن"، ولكنّه يتمكن من الفرار بطريقة ماكرة، وعندما يصل المدعي العام الجديد يجد أخطبوط الفساد بانتظاره؛ فيقع في شرك مجموعة المصالح المؤلفة من مسؤولين فاسدين وبدل أن يكون هو المُدّعي يجد نفسه مدَّعى عليه.
في هذا الفضاء الروائي سيكون مصنع دافنغ للألبسة ومنتجع شانشوي هما حجرا الرحى في تحقيقات المدعي العام الشاب والمندفع، ولكن تحقيقاته تمس خطوطاً حمرٌ ما يهدد بتدحرج رؤوس كبيرة.
في هذه الرواية المختلفة حبكة العمل عالمية، التشويق لا يفارق القارئ في أي صفحة من العمل، والغموض والشك سمة أساسية للأحداث والوقائع والشخوص.
