"أرق الليالي" كتاب ٌجديد للقاضي الشيخ محمد الشيخ أحمد مغنية؛ فيه ما هو غذاء للروح والعقل، يُنمي الفكر ويُروّح عن النفس؛ فتجد تفسيراً لبعض آيات القرآن المجيد.. وطرائفَ وأمثالاً عربية.. وقصصاً وحكايات وتواريخ.. وفيه من نكت الأخبار ومن عيون الأشعار. وقد تقصدتُ فيما أخرجته من كل باب غاية الاختصار، وأعفيته من الإكثار.
والغاية من هذا التنوع على ما يقول المؤلف: أولاً - الإفادة والترويح عن النفس المثقلة بالهموم والمشاغل اليومية. ثانياً - إن اهتمامات الناس تختلف من شخصٍ لآخر، وكذلك رغبته في ما يحب أن يقرأ، فبعضهم يُفضل قراءة التاريخ، وآخرون يُفضلون قراءة أشعار أو حِكَمٍ، أو معرفة قصة مثل، وهكذا.. لذا قيل: لولا اختلاف الأذواق لبارت السلع في الأسواق. فكان لا بدَّ من التنوع.
وعليه، وزع المؤلف مادة الكتاب "أرق الليالي" بمجموع موضوعاته على: 365 ليلة، مقسم على أبواب هي عناوين عامة للمضمون، ووراء كل باب فصول، يُمثّل كل فصلٍ ليلةً.. فتقرأ في الليلة الواحدة تفسير آيةً، يتبعها قولٌ مأثور، أو بيتان من الشعر، أو معلومة.. وهكذا كل فصل فيه تنوع معلومات، وقد يغلب نوع واحد على غيره، فمرَّة يكون العنوان "أسلوب حياة"، وأخرى "شاعر وقصيدة"، وثالثة "شخصيات نسائية"، وهكذا...
