إن البناء الشعري في «جبين البقاء» يتيح للشاعرة نجوى عباس عقيل فرصة تشكيل بنية خاصة في الكتابة قادرة على استيعاب الواقع الإنساني بامتداداته لا سيما عنصري (الزمان والمكان)، فمن حيث الزمان استطاعت الشاعرة من خلال النصوص، بناء أو تشكيلا نموذجها الشعري الخاص الذي يتجاوز زمنها (الراهن) الواقعي إلى زمن (ماضي) جميل ممتد استقر في خيالها، ولم يتبق منه سوى نتفاً من ذكريات "للعودة إلى مرافئ أيامنا/ التي كنا نرى/ لها معنىً خفياً/ في نفوسنا.../ كانت لنا/ حكايات جميلة../ مواقف طريفة../ كلمات صادقة نقية/ نشعر بها.../ ونلمحها كالفراش/ المتطاير من شفاهنا/ ليحلّق ويصنع شهداً/ يحلو في/ لسان الحياة..."، أما بالنسبة للمكان، فإن هذه النصوص تنتج نسقاً بنائياً جديداً يكشف عن هوية المكان وأثره في هوية من يكتب وتوجهاته الشعرية "وهل ينسى الإنسان البلد/ التي حقق فيها/ آمالاً.../ ورسمت له آفاقاً جديدة/ ليبدأ مشوار/ حياته.../ أحبك يا رياض/ ولا أنسى يوم لقائي بك!/ لم أنسَ الرائحة الزكية/ لمناخك المتقلب/ أيام الشتاء.../ الذي دائماً ما أشبهه/ بالمثقف الواعي ذي المراس الصعب؟/ لكنه رحيم...". وتستمر الشاعرة لتصل التجربة الشعرية ذروتها في بقية النصوص وهي تلامس أحاديث الروح والنفس والقلب والحب للأم والوطن وكل ما يملئ عالمها من جمال وحبور...يتألف الكتاب من اثنان وعشرون نصاً جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "كانت لنا نوادينا"، "الإبحار إلى عالم الصعاب"، "قلبها"، "مواساة"، "كبرياء مسافر"، "عنفوان الأيام"، "عندما أخلو بقلبي"، "ويورق الأمل"، "عندما نحب"، "حيرة طفل"، (...) ونصوص أخرى.
