..ولئن كان البحث في اللغة، وفي جانبها الدلالي خاصة، كان موجوداً عند الفلاسفة القدماء وعلماء الدين وكذا الأصوليين والنحاة والبلاغيين، من العرب وغير العرب، فإنه يجب أن نؤكد على أن البحث في اللغة، بشكل عام، وفي الدلالة على وجه الخصوص، قد تبلور منهجاً قائماً بذاته في القرون المتأخرة من البحث، ذلك أن البحث في اللغة في العصور المتقدمة قد غلب عليه الطابع العقدي أكثر، بينما تخلص نوعاً ما البحث اللغوي في القرون المتأخرة من هذه السمة، وأصبح يبحث في الخلفيات المعرفية/الابستمولوجية أكثر من أي شيء آخر. وحين تبلور البحث اللغوي ابتداءً من القرن السابع عشر على هذا الشكل بعث فينا روح البحث من جديد، وجعلنا نتأمل التراث اللغوي العربي من جديد، لكن قراءتنا، في معظم أحوالها، كانت تبحث عن أسرار التراث بين يدي هذه النظريات الغربية المحملة بشحنات قد أرهقت كاهلنا بمصطلحات غريبة كثيراً عما ألفناه، وعليه أصبح البحث في التراث من الأمور التي لا تؤتي ثمارها بالشكل الذي نرجوه، وذلك يرجع بالدرجة الأولى إلى افتقادنا الأدوات المنهجية والآليات التي نضيء بها التراث، ووجدنا الآليات التي رسمها لنا الغربيون من خلال رؤاهم لعالمهم ومعارفهم. وقد تولد عن هذا كله إشكالية أخرى طرحت في الساحة العلمية ولا زالت في أيامنا هذه، وهي كيف نقرأ التراث، ومتى نتخلص في قراءتنا للتراث من إسقاط النظريات الغربية، وهل يحتاج التراث العربي إلى هذه الأدوات التي توسل بها العقل الغربي ليرسم حدود تحليل اللغة وبيان أسرارها أو هو في غنى عنها، علماً أن التراث العربي قد صنع نفسه رغم احتكاكه بالثقافات الأخرى، وما هي الأدوات التي نقرأ بها التراث بشرط أن تكون وفق ما يتطلبه العقل العربي المعاصر؟
