إنه ينطلق من المجتمعات البدائية صعوداً حتى بلاد ما بين النهرين خلال الألفية الرابعة قبل الميلاد، بحثنا عن جذور الحجاب في حضارة سومر، ثم في حضارة الأكديين في الألفية الثالثة قبل الميلاد، وما تبعها من حضارات أشورية وبابلية.
كذلك بحثنا في أصل الحجاب في حضارة مصر القديمة منذ الألفية الثالثة قبل الميلاد، وما كان يقابلها في تلك الفترة من حضارات آسيوية، وصولاً إلى الحضارة الإغريقية ابتداءً من القرن الخامس قبل الميلاد ولغاية هيمنة الحضارة الرومانية عليها، ودخولها في المسيحية فيما بعد.
