ولد تشوانغ تسي (369–286 ق.م) ومنح اسم تشو في دولة سونغ. وهو يعتبر الرجل الرئيسي في المدرسة الطاوية بعد لاو تسي. فقد هاجم المفاهيم الرسمية للطقوس الدينية، مزدرياً الأمراء المحترمين والنبلاء، ورفض أن يتقلد أي منصب رسمي، وراح يتجول في جميع أنحاء الإمبراطورية ناشراً أفكاره. لقد كان تشوانغ تسي مفكراً عظيماً، ورجل فلسفة ورسالة، خلال حقبة الممالك المتحارِبة (475–221 ق.م). لقد ورث تشوانغ تسي عباءة لاو تسي الفكرية، وتجلىَّ ذلك في كتابه الكلاسيكي كتاب تشوانغ تسي. الذي أظهر فيه روحاً تواقةً للِعُلى، ومفعمةً بالشجاعةِ الأدبيةِ والفكريةِ. وذات مشاعر عميقة. لقد تطرق لكل الموضوعات بحرّية، وطبيعية، الأمرَ الذي جعل من تشوانغ سيداً خالداً في تراثِ البشرية.
يروي الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا «قصة تشوانغ تسي»، المفكر العظيم وحياته المليئة بالقصص، المتشابكة مع الحوادث التاريخية في حياته. إنه يعيد إلى حياتنا روعة ومأساة وعجائب عصر بعيد، مع مكائد ونضالات النبلاء الأقوياء، إلى جانب المشاكل اليومية وأفكار عامة الناس. كُتبت قصة تشوانغ تسي على أنها سيرة أدبية، تقدم الملامح الرئيسية لمهنة تشوانغ تسي، وللأزمنة والفكر حينها على شكل رواية. وأُخذت جميع الأسماء والحوادث والقصص الثقافية المعروضة في الكتاب من المصادر الأصلية. إنه، إذا جاز القول، عمل من الأدب والتاريخ. وهو مهدى للقراء الذين لديهم شغفٌ بالثقافةِ الصينية.
