كانت الشاعرة الصينية التايوانية شيانغ هوا، ومنذ طفولتها تميل إلى هدوء الريف وبساطته، من جهة، ومن الجهة المقابلة، كانت دائماً تجذبها عواطف الإنسانية ومشاعرها الصادقة. وفي وجهة نظرها فإن الفنّ يسعى للجمال والفضيلة. وهي تؤمن بأن كل حقيقة في الحياة يمكن للشعر أن يعبّر عنها. عام 1984 اشتركت تشانغ شيانغ هوا في برنامج الكتابة العالمي (Intarnaitional writing program)، الذي تقيمه جامعة ايوا في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية. وعام 1992 منحها اتحاد الشعراء لقب شاعرة الشعراء. وقد وفرت لها رحلاتها الواسعة في أرجاء العالم تجربة خصبة تلمسها في شعرها. وتضم أعمال الشاعرة هوا ثلاثة دواوين من الشعر، وأربع مجموعات من المقالات وكتاب مختارات من الشعر والنثر، وثلاث مجلدات ترجمتها من الإنكليزية إلى الصينية. ولها كتابان مترجمان إلى الانكليزية، وكتاب ثالث مترجم إلى اللغتين العربية والرومانية، وهي تدير حالياً برنامجاً إذاعياً حول الشعر في تابيبي. والذي تسميه بالشعر الجديد وهي تقول بأن هذا الشعر الجديد ليس حكراً على النخبة القليلة الذين يمكنهم أن يناقشوه في أبراجهم العاجية خلال حفلة لشرب الشاي في المساء، بل أن هذا الشعر يجب أن يكون انعكاسات وسجلاً للأرواح التي ترى في الحياة اليومية. وهذا التوجه قريب من أفكار برتولد بريخت، التي أثّرت على الشعر الألماني، خاصة اشعر الألماني الغربي بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية وتجاري الكثير من قصائد تشانغ هذه الأفكار، فهي عادة تستغل جيداً "المادة الخام" التي تستوحيها من الحياة اليومية واللغة العامية. تهمها القيم العائلية والحياة الخاصة. والشاعرة حساسة جداً للظلم الاجتماعي بشتى أنواعه. والمثال على ذلك قصيدتها "لا للشكوى" التي ترفض فكرة أن المعاناة دون شكوى هي إحدى مميزات الشعب الصيني، لذا فإن شعرها ينبع من إرادة قوية ومن إيمان بالعدالة وبأن المقاومة لدى كل فرد ولدى الشعب بشكل عام لها المعنى الأعمق والأسمى.
