لعل من أبرز سمات الفكر أنه يمكن التحاور فيه لأجل إثرائه وبلوغ الحقيقة التي لأجلها كان، وهذا الكتاب ينتمي إلى هذه الفئة، إذ أن مضمونه عبارة عن محاورة الفيزيائي الشهير "ستيفن هوكنج" وزميله الفيزيائي "ليونارد ملودينو" في كتابهما "المصمِّم الأعظم"، غايتهما طرح رؤية أخرى تخالف رؤيتهما عن الكون، عبر عرض الدلائل المستندة على أشد الأفكار يقيناً في صرح المعرفة البشري، تؤكد دعوى هذه المحاورة أن لهذا الكون موجداً، وأن فرض عدم وجوده توأم للقول بعدم وجود العالم، وبما أنه لا مناص للعقل إلا أن يعترف بأصل الواقعية ووجود العالم، فتغدو فكرة وجود موجد العالم – بحسب هذه القراءة النقدية – حتمية الإذعان.
تأتي أهمية كتاب "المصمِّم الأعظم" من كون موضوعه "الله" يمس جميع البشر، فلقد تناول خلاله هوكنج وملودينو: الداعي الذي يدعو البشرية إلى افتراض وجوده. وبحسب نظرهما؛ أن ذلك الداعي يكمُن في سبق العدم على الوجود. وقد حاولا في كتابهما المشار إليه – ومن خلال مناقشة مجموعة من أسئلة الفكر الكبرى؛ من قبيل:" لماذا هناك وجود؟"، و"لماذا وُجدنا؟"، و"لماذا هناك هذه المجموعة من القوانين العلمية وليس غيرها؟" أن يُقدما، وعبر قراءة للظواهر والقوانين العلمية المكتشفة، طرحاً يُغني البشرية عن اللجوء إلى الألوهية؛ لتفسير منشأ العالم، أطلقا عليه "نظرية الأكوان المتعددة". وبما أن موضوع الكتاب أمرٌ عامٌ وليس مجالاً يُمكن عدُّه حكراً على اختصاص معين، كان من الضروري أن يتناوله فكرٌ آخر برؤية أخرى، وهذا الذي سعى إليه الدكتور حسن بن أحمد اللواتي في الكتاب.
يقع الكتاب في قسمين، يستعرض القسم الأول مضمون كتاب "المصمِّم الأعظم" وذلك عبر ثمانية فصول؛ فيما يستعرض القسم الثاني قراءة نقدية في الكتاب وللمسيرة الفكرية التي انتهجها مؤلفاه في كتابهما الآنف الذكر؛ والتي تؤشر بمضامينها على الفجوة الواقعة بين المقدمات والنتائج؛ من مُنطلق المقولة الشهيرة: "أهمية الاسنتاج تفرض علينا أهمية البحث ووسائله ودقته".
