الشكر هو عبادة لله سبحانه وتعالى أولاً، وهو نوع من أنواع رد الفعل تجاه موقف مر بك لأنه يتطلب منك أن تقوم إما بالشكر والتفكير الإيجابي وإما بالتذمر والسخط والتفكير السلبي، وقد يصل إلى نوع من أنواع الكفر بنعم الله عز وجل.
ولأن "الشكر" عبادة اختارت الكاتبة ريحانة الفوزان آية من آيات الذكر الحكيم عنواناً لكتابها «اعْمَلُوا آلَ داووُدَ شُكْراً» واعتبرته بمثابة دليل تطويري يحوي مجموعة من الأسس الدينية والبحوث العلمية والعملية والخواطر الإيجابية، بالإضافة إلى السلوكيات التي آمنت بها ومارستها، تقدمه للقارئ كمنهج وطريق تُمكنه من التفكر وبتطبيق ما ورد فيه، يكون قد امتلك منهجاً وطريقة يتبعها في حياته ويستقي أثرها في نجاحه في مختلف مجالات الحياة.
تقول الكاتبة الفوزان: "... هذا الكتاب بحثٌ متواضع لربط عبادة الشكر التي أُمرنا بها وبيان عظم هذه القيمة الأخلاقية علينا وعلى واقعنا وعلى من حولنا. لقد جمعت الأدلة من القرآن الكريم والتي تأمرنا بالشكر كعبادة خالصة لله سبحانه وتعالى أولاً، ومن ثم تقديم هذه العبادة لوالدينا ولمن حولنا. ومن ثم قرأت في السنّة النبوية عن صور شكر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كمعلم ديني ورمز أخلاقي نستقي منه العادات الإسلامية. كما قرأت في قصص وأخبار الأنبياء وسير صحابة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم والصالحين وما جاء في مواقفهم وأقوالهم وعاداتهم في هذه العبادة، وكيفية تطبيقها ليكونوا خير قدوة لنا. كما قمت بإدراج الأبحاث الميدانية التي تمت في هذا المجال واستقيت أفكاراً من كتب أجنبية وترجمت منها بتصرّف ما يتناسب مع ديننا وقيمنا الإسلامية".
