تكتشف الحفيدة - الراوية وهي تتقبّل التعازي في دار الجدّة الفقيدة وجود رجلٍ مجهولٍ أعرب عن إستيائه الكبير لوصوله بعد فوات الأوان، لا سيّما وأنّه كان يريد تسليم الجدّة ملفّاً يخصّها، وخلال محادثة طويلة معه في الحديقة تحت العريشة تكتشف الراوية، مصدومةً، جانباً خفيّاً من شخصيّة جدّتها المشرقة، إذ تبرر فجأةً، خلف الصورة المؤمثلة، صورةٌ أخرى أكثر إلتباساً وإلغازاً.
"تحت العريشة" رواية هي بمثابة إستذكار لجدّتها، المتمسّكة بحرِّية داخليّة مذهلة، على خلفيّة الأحداث التاريخيّة التي عصفت بالشرق والعالم: بدءاً من مذابح الأرمن، مروراً بالقضيّة الفلسطينيّة، وصولاً إلى الحرب اللبنانيّة.
تكتب "هيام يارد" اللبنانيّة الشعر والرواية باللغة الفرنسيّة، صدر لها ثلاثة دواوين شعريّة ورواية "خزانة الظلال"، تُرجمت كتبها إلى عدّة لغات عالميّة ونالت روايتها "تحت العريشة" جائزة فينيكس عام 2009 وجائزة ريشليو عام 2011.
