كانت تريدني أن أصبح أميرة فألبستني أحذية أصغر من مقاسي، تفتتح ميرال الطحاوي روايتها بهذه الجملة لتحكي عن "ندى" وهي شابة مصرية ولدت في أثناء فترة هزيمة مصر عام 1967، لتعيش حياة حائرة وسط التوقعات المتضاربة من عائلتها الصغيرة.. فوالدتها تريدها "أميرة" ووالدها يراها "عالمة فضاء" أما أخوها فيريدها "قديسة"، في أسلوب سردي مبتكر تعرض ميرال وقائع لسلسلة من التعليقات والإخفاقات التي تتعرض لها ندى "الباذنجانة الزرقاء" في رحلة بحثها عن الذات وعن دفء المشاعر الإنسانية، وسط حالة من التخبط في الحياة السياسية والإجتماعية والتي شهدتها مصر في العقود الأخيرة من القرن العشرين.
