ترسم هذه الرواية ملامح سوريّة من خلال "الغرباء" الذين وَفَدوا إليها في مطلع القرن العشرين:
-شمسي ميرزا آغا: الشركسيّ، العاشق الذي أراد أن يغيِّر كلَّ شيء.
-بيلّا بِكتاش: الأذريَّة، الخلّابة الصامتة.
-تيمور ميرزا: البهيّ، الذي أُغرِمتْ به كلُّ النساء، لكنّه قدَّم باقة الورد إلى امرأة واحدة.
-سيسي بابايان: الأرمنيّة ذات الجدائل السوداء المُضحكة...
حملتهم الحروبُ على ترك أوطانهم، وتغيير لغاتهم، والعيشِ في ذكرياتهم، بعضهم فَقَدَ السمع، وآخرون فقدوا العقل.
كيف يلتقي كلُّ هؤلاء في حلب ودمشق ليعيشوا في سلام؟ في علاقات معقَّدة؟ في حبٍّ صامت؟ في قصور وثراء فاحش، أو في فقر مدقع؟...
