بين الإرادة والقدر، تقبع رواية "عائد إلى الحياة" للطبيب والروائي والسياسي الفلسطيني فايز رشيد، الذي يقرر إخبارنا قصته مع مرض عضال ألم به (سرطان البروستات). انطلاقاً من اعتقاد في ذهنه كما يقول: "إن أية تجربة حياتية وبشكل خاص مرضية تحمل بين ثناياه قيمة إنسانية كبيرة، إضافة لأن التجربة انتهت بهزيمة المرض...".
ولأن الغاية التي تحققها السيرة الذاتية هي الغاية التي يؤديها كل عمل فني صحيح، فإن "عائد إلى الحياة" بدت سيرة ذاتية اختار لها صاحبها شكلاً فنياً خارجياً هو الرواية. يحكي خلالها تجربته الفريدة مع المرض، ويسطرها بأسلوب أدبي أقرب إلى الاعترافات، ويتوجه بها إلى قارئ محتمل، وربما قارئ مريض.
في هذه السيرة يعرض الروائي فياز رشيد جوانب متعددة من حياته الشخصية والمهنية، ويقدم معلومات مهمة عن الأمراض التي يمكن أن يتعرض لها الإنسان، وكذلك عائلته وأصدقاؤه ومحبيه، ويتوغل في الماضي البعيد والقريب، ويقفز من ذكرى إلى أخرى، ومن زمن إلى آخر، ومن مكان إلى آخر، ويتوقف عند محطات بارزة في حياته بأفراجها وأتراحها، وإذا كان ثمة كلام يمكن أن يقال في هذه التجربة الأدبية الخاصة، هو هذه الجرأة في الروي، التي لا يتورع خلالها الكتاتب عن ذكر آلامه والبوح بمكنونات ذاكرته، في (الحاضر، والماضي) فأظهر براعة في القصّ وبنى سيرة ذاتية فنية متماسكة تستحق أن تقرأ.
