أسعد أبو خليل (16 آذار/مارس 1960 - ) هو بروفيسور لبناني-أمريكي في العلوم السياسية في جامعة ولاية كاليفورنيا، ستانيسلاوس ويحاضر في جامعة كاليفورنيا في بيركلي.
ولد أسعد في مدينة صور، لبنان، ونشأ في بيروت.
تخرج من الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، فرع العلوم السياسية، وسافر إلى الولايات المتحدة حيث نال شهادة الدكتوراه من جامعة جورج تاون في واشنطن.
يعمل أسعد كبروفيسور في العلوم السياسية في جامعة ولاية كاليفورنيا، ستانيسلاوس ويحاضر في جامعة كاليفورنيا، بيركلي.
كما أنه يحاضر في، جامعة تافتس، جامعة جورج تاون، جامعة جورج واشنطن، كلية كولورادو، وكلية راندولف ماكون للمرأة.
ويكتب مقالا كل أسبوع يوم السبت في جريدة الأخبار اللبنانية.
Book Description
يضم هذا الكتاب ما بين دفتيه مجموعة مقالات منتقاة نُشرت سابقاً في جريدة الأخبار اللبنانية للمفكر اللبناني"أسعد أبو خليل". تأتي أهمية هذه المقالات من كونها تعبّر عن مرحلة قاسية في التاريخ العربي المعاصر – وكل مراحله قاسية – وهي غطت المرحلة التي تلت عدوان تموز على لبنان. فيها الكثير من التغلغل الصهيوني في المنطقة العربية، جغرافياً ونفسياً ودعائياً وإعلامياً. لكن تبقى الكتابة مجرد كتابة. والرفض والعصيان يحتاجان إلى كتابة ... وإلى أكثر بكثير من كتابة. الكتابة وحدها لا تكفي.
يقول أسعد أبو خليل في مقدمة كتابه هذا " ... أنا نتاج حقبة من أصعب الحقبات في التاريخ العربي المعاصر. أنا وليد تجربة فيها الكثير من الأمل والعزم والحزم والتصميم والمثابرة والثورية، وفيها الكثير من الخيبة والألم والقهر والعذاب والتعذيب والحلم والإرتداد والإنكفاء والتساقط والإنتهازية ...".
يعتبر أبو خليل أن من المبالغة "القول قدرة اي كاتب على التأثير في الرأي العام ومن الخطأ اعتبار الكتابة في حد ذاتها، وإن كانت مرتبطة بفكر تغييري ثوري، بديلاً عن وسائل التغيير الأكثر فعالية. الكتابة المؤثرة، لوكانت مؤثرة، هي تلك التي تكون مرتبطة بحركة ثورية تغييرية ذات وسائل وأشكال متعددة. لهذا، فإن الكتابة تستقي من مصادر تتكامل في حركة متكاملة، وإلا كانت عملية تعبيرية لا أكثر. وينقص من قدرتي على التغيير إقامتي في غربة طويلة: أي إن إمكانية مشاركتي في حركة ثورية عربية هي شبه منتفية نتيجة الوجود الجغرافي، الأمر الذي ينقص من فعالية الكتابة".
