في هذا المؤلف يقتطف "إيفا نوف" للقارئ بعضاً من المنتخب في كتب الأسماعيلية ويقدم فيه مراجعة نقدية- معرفية يبحث من خلالها في أصل الظواهر ولا سيما المعتقدات التي سادت عبر قرون.
من هذا المنطلق اختار إيفا نوف النستشرق أجزاء مهمة من خمسة كتب من كتب الإسماعيلية وهي: شرح الإخبار، غاية المواليد، زهر المعاني، أسرار النطقاء لجعفر بن منصور اليمن، مجالس سيدنا حاتم بن إبراهيم الجامدي.
وفي هذا العمل ينتقد الكاتب كتب الحديث سنيها وشيعيَها، ويعتبر أنها "تحتوي على نماذد من الأحاديث لا الله والا الأنبياء بل ولا ضعاف العقول يقبلونها(...)". "وأن خروج العرب بينهم الجديد على العالم أدى إلى دخول أفكار غريبة، أضافها أهل الأرض المحتلة إلى إسلامهم، ينطبق ذلك على كل الأديان الثلاثة (...) إن هذه (الجذور) الغريبة عن الأديان السماوية الحنيفة هي التي شقت الأديان إلى مذاهب وفرق، وقد أثرت الفلسفتان الإغريقية والهندية في نشوء مذاهب وفرق كثيرة من الأديان السماوية الثلاثة(...) ولا يختلف الإسماعيليون عن بقية المذاهب الدينية في كل الأديان السماوية...".
لأجل ذلك سعى المؤلف إلى تتبع جذور الإسماعيلية ونسبها وانتشارها من خلال الكتب الخمسة الآنف ذكرها أعلاه، والإعتماد على أهم المصادر التاريخية ومقارنتها بما جاء في كتب الحديث، فكانت دراسة معمقة –جدلية تتخذ من العقل وسيلة للإيمان والتفسير...
