الإسلام والديمقراطية صنوان.. هذا رأي بعض المفكرين المسلمين. بينما يرى المفكرون العلمانيون أن الإسلام والديمقراطية ضدان لا يلتقيان. ويحظى الفريق العلماني بتأييد شريحة من الإسلاميين المتشددين الذين يرون الديمقراطية كفرًا؛ لأنها تجعل الحاكمية للشعب، في حين ينبغي أن تكون هذه الحاكمية لله. وبعض الإسلاميين يرى أن الإسلام له تصوره الخاص للحريات. وأن هذا التصور أرقى من التصور الديمقراطي، بحيث يصير من قبيل ظلم الشريعة وإحباط تميزها أن نقول بأن الإسلام ديمقراطي. وشريحة رابعة من الإسلاميين ترى أن الإسلام وسّع نطاق الحقوق والحريات، لكنه جعل الحرية مسؤولة ومرتبطة بحدود الله وشرعته. وفصيل خامس من الإسلاميين قال: إنه لا قيد ألبتة في الإسلام على الحريات؛ لأن كل إنسان مطالب بعرض حججه، وتقديم بيناته وعلى كل مكلف أن يختار، حيث لا إجبار على عقيدة في الإسلام. المقدمة التالية ، لم يضعها الدكتور عبد الستار قاسم لهذا الكتاب ، لكن بعد قراءة الكتاب بدت لنا ، وكأنها ترد على كثير من الموضوعات المطروحة فيه. وبطبيعة الحال ،فإن الناشر لا يتبنى أياً من أفكار مؤلف الكتاب " الإسلام والديمقراطية" ، واختياره لترجمته إلى اللغة العربية يهدف أولاً وأخيراً لتسليط الضوء ، مرة أخرى ، على هذا الموضوع ،بهدف تحريض المتخصصين في هذا الشأن لمناقشته ، رفضاً أو قبولاً.
