لقد أُدْرِجَتْ عبارتا «عالميّة mondialisation» و«عولمة globalisation» في اللغة المشتركة إلى درجة أنّ استعمالهما، عند الحديث عن مستقبل المجتمعات الحديثة، لا يُعِينُ على توضيح النقاش، بقدر ما ينمّي الغموض القائم. بهذا الخصوص، يجدرُ بدون شكّ، اتّخاذ الحيطة. فمن المعروف أنّ الكلمات ليست بريئة وأنّ تضخّم بعض المفاهيم يساير الظروف الزمنية: إذا ما كانت تعكس طبعاً أحياناً انشغالات عصر ما، لا تمثّل دوما أنسب المصادر لتحليلها في العمق. في نفس الوقت، من الواضح أنّه إن لم تتمّ عمليّة تجريد فأيّ خُطَّةٍ للالتفاف يمكنها أن تبدو في النهاية عائقاً للفهم الجيد للأشياء.
يتمثَّل أحد الأوجه الأكثر بروزاً لحداثتنا، في الواقع، في الطريقة التي يقوم فيها كل فرد في تغيير التموقع باستمرار من مرجعيّة إلى أخرى، من المحلّي إلى المعولَم. لاشكّ أن هذا هو السبب الذي من أجله تكتسب أنثروبولوجيا العولمة كلّ جدارتها، في الحدود التي تُعَالِجُ فيها من الداخل هذه الجدليّة انطلاقاً من ميادين معيّنة حيث الانشغالات بما هو قريب وباليوميّ تتساوق مع تَلَقٍّ لانتماء كونيّ. إذا لم يكن هناك شيء خاصّ تلقِّنُهُ لنا الأنثروبولوجيا حول العالميّة، هي في المقابل قادرة على إضاءة العولمة الْمُدْرَكَة على أنّها صيرورة متعدِّدة الأبعاد، مشوّشة المؤشِّرات التقليديّة، راسِمَة من جديد العلاقات ما بين الفرديّ والجمعيّ، مصيبة في العمق صيغ التفكير والسلوك في الزوايا الأربعة للكون.
