فگريس يرى أن الاعتقاد بأن المادية التاريخية لماركس تستلزم إنكاراً لمفهوم الطبيعة البشرية، هو عبارة عن "رأي قديم تغذى عليه التأثير الألتوسيري... لأن هذه العبارة لا تزال شائعة ومضللة، ولا يزال هناك ضرورة حقيقية لدراستها".
