الإصدار الأدبي الأوّل لـ نبيل محمد، الذي اشتغلَ كثيراً في الصحافة، يُسلِّط الضوء على فترةٍ زمنيّة تقارب الستَّة أشهرٍ قبلَ اندلاعِ الثورة ضدَّ نظامِ بشَّار الأسد، يرصدُ من خلالها الكاتبُ الرَّاهِن الحياتي في دمشق وبدايةَ تفكُّكِ ودمار أجهزةِ الدَّولة، عبر تتبُّعِ مصيرِ أفراد أسرةِ علي اللِّواء، الضَّابط الذي ينتمي لريفِ السَّاحل السُّوري، ويعيشُ هو وأبناؤه تحت ظلِّ الرُّتبِ العسكريَّة التي يحمِلُها على كتفيْه. هناك أيضًا شوشو، ابنةُ الضابط الجميلة والغبيّة، والتي تعمل بدايةً كمحرِّرة في صحيفة يوميّة، ثم مُقدِّمة برنامج شو في فضائيّة خاصَّة يملكُها أحد المتنفِّذين في النِّظام، كما وتربطُها علاقة عاطفية بجارها الشاب الدِّمشقي الذي يخدم دورة الأغرار الإلزامية في الجيش. ثمَّ حسام، الطالبُ الجامعي، بشخصيةِ ابن الضّابط المُسطَّحة، والتي لا تعرف تماماً أهدافَها الكبرى أو الصُّغرى في الحياة. وأخيرًا سُليْمانة (أمُّ حسام) زوجةُ الضَّابط، والتي أكثر ما يربطها بزوجها هي رتبه العسكرية.
في "دورة أغرار" تتصاعد جملةُ العلاقات المُتشابكة مع شخصياتٍ أخرى، من النَّجاح المُزيّف إلى العجز ثم الانهيار، فيما تتجه حياةُ آخرين في الرواية إلى الخروج من العجز إلى رفضِ الأوضاع الاجتماعيّة والسياسيّة.
