لطالما كانت مأساة الفلسطينيين في الشتات وجراحهم المستمرّة أرضاً خصبة لحركات التطرّف. وهذا ما يتضّح أيضاً بالنسبة إلى تنظيم القاعدة الذي تراوحت مساهمة الفلسطينيين فيه بين الإفتاء له وتحديد مساراته، كأبي قتادة وسواه، والتحوّل إلى جنوده، خاصّةً في العراق.
يفسّر هذا الكتاب الموقع الفلسطيني في معضلة "الجهاد العالمي". ويسعى إلى بلورة افتراض يتعدّى الوقائع ويتمثّل في أن ثمّة تشابه بين انعدام الهوية الوطنية والاجتماعية لتنظيم القاعدة، وبين تبديد هذه الهوية الذي تولّته عملية اقتلاع الفلسطينيين من بلادهم، ثم تجميعهم في شتات لم تُساعد على تعويضهم الفراغ الذي خلّفه النزوح.
