ويبحث في السبب الذي أدى بتونس، الدولة التي أشعلت فتيل الربيع العربي، إلى أن تختبر التغيير السياسي الأكبر بالقدر الأقل من سفك الدماء. كما يفصّل أسباب إخفاق الربيع العربي في إطلاق ربيع فلسطيني، ويفنّد كيف شرع النظامان الملكيان في الأردن والمغرب في إدخال إصلاحات لتفادي الثورة.
لماذا أخذت أمورٌ كثيرةٌ هذا المنحى الخاطئ في هذا العدد الكبير من البلدان؟ هل كانت المشكلة تكمن أكثر في أساليب وقيادة وأهداف الحركات الشعبيّة، أم في ظروف المجتمعات التي كانت هذه الحركات تحاول تغييرها؟ كيف أثّرت القوى الخارجية في الأحداث، بما في ذلك الولايات المتحدة وأوروبا، وما حدود دورها ونشاطاتها المثيرة للجدل في كل من البلدان المعنية بالثورات؟
