يُعد حمزة باحث وصحافي سعودي، حائز على شهادة دكتوراه في العلوم السياسية من جامعة وستمنستر البريطانية. متخصّص في الشأن السعودي ومسائل الإصلاح السياسي في المملكة العربية السعودية. صدر له العديد من الكتب. كان في عام 2011 قد بدأ الاستعداد في العاصمة البريطانية لإطلاق أول قناة معارضة شيعية للنظام السعودي، وأوضح أن القناة سيكون هدفها المطالبة بحقوق الشيعة السعوديين، وذلك بالتعاون مع وسائل الإعلام العالمية ومنظمات حقوق الإنسان الدولية.

يبحث هذا الكتاب في جزأيه أحوال الشيعة في المملكة العربية السعودية خلال عهدين متلاحقين: العهد التركي (1871-1913) والعهد العثماني (1913-1991).
ويعرّف المؤلّف بالمواطنين الشيعة في السعودية، تاريخاً وثقافة وهوية. ويعتبر أنهم، رغم كثرتهم، أُريد لهم أن يكونوا مجهولين داخل وطنهم وخارجه. ويروي معاناتهم في ظلّ الحكم الحالي القائم على تصوّرات طائفية. ويدعو إلى المساواة بين المواطنين، واحترام خصوصية كل فئة ومذهب في أقاليم المملكة المختلفة في التاريخ والثقافة والعادات والطباع والاقتصاد.
