يملأ هذا الكتاب فراغاً كبيراً في المكتبة العربية والتاريخ العربي المعاصر للشرق الأوسط. ويسلِّط الضوء على ما يدعوه المؤلف "الشرق في زمن التحولات"، فيصف جملة الأزمات والانقلابات المتقاطعة منذ أواخر الحرب العالمية الثانية حتى شهر آب/أغسطس 1957.
