ولد الكاتب المصري حسين عيد عام 1946م، بالقاهرة ـ حاصل على بكالوريوس العلوم التجارية (محاسبة) ـ له العديد من الكتب في الإبداع القصصي والرواية- له كتب متميزة في مجال الترجمة الأدبية ـ تخصص في النقد خلال العقدين الماضيين وله 13 كتابا نقديا، منها «غارسيا ماركيز وأفول الديكتاتورية» و«مفهوم السلطة والدين في تجربة فتحي غانم الإبداعية».. آخر ما نشر «سحر الإبداع: مع كتاب عرب وأجانب».

هذه الرواية التي يصفها بيراندِلُّلو نفسه، في رسالةٍ من رسائل سيرته الذَّاتيَّة، فيقول: "النَّصُّ الأكثر مرارةً من أيِّ نصٍّ آخر، السَّاخرُ أعمقَ ما تكون السُّخرية من تحلُّلِ الحياةِ نفسِها" هو عملَه الرِّوائيَّ الوحيد والأخير. وهو الذي سينظر إليه كثيرٌ من الدَّارسين والمفكِّرين لاحقاً على أنَّه تكثيفٌ لكلِّ الأفكار واختصارٌ لكلِّ العوالم التي أراد بيراندِلُّلو التَّعبيرَ عنها في الرِّوايةِ والقصَّةِ والمسرح.
ولا غروَ في ذلك إذا ما علمنا أنَّ بيراندِلُّلو عملَ خمسة عشر عاماً على إنجاز هذه الرِّواية، وقد قال هو نفسُه إنَّه أبداً لم يضعها جانباً بين عملٍ وآخر، بل واصل العملَ عليها والتَّعديلَ فيها، معتبراً إيَّاها بعد كلِّ شيءٍ أشبهَ بوصيَّته الفكريَّة والأدبيَّة. ومع ذلك، ليس من الإنصاف القولُ إنَّ هذه الرِّواية روايةٌ فكريَّةٌ فحسب، فهي وإن كانت تنطلق من فكرةٍ فلسفيَّةٍ ووجوديَّة إلَّا أنَّها لا تُغفِلُ الحدثَ الرِّوائيَّ وبناءَ الشَّخصيَّةِ الرِّوائيَّة، وهذا ما يجعلها في رأي كثيرين من طينةِ "المسخ" لكافكا، أو "يوليسيس" لجيمس جويس، أو حتَّى "البحث عن الزَّمن الضَّائع" لبروست. من الكتاب: المدينةُ بعيدة. يبلغُني منها، أحياناً، في هدأةِ الغروب، صوتُ الأجراس. ولكنَّني لم أعد أسمعُ تلك الأجراس في داخلي الآن، وإنَّما من خارجٍ فحسب،- أسمعها ترنُّ حُبَّاً بذاتها، وربَّما كانت ترتعشُ محبورةً داخلَ تجاويفها المُرِنَّة، في سماءٍ زرقاءَ آسِرَةٍ ملأى بشمسٍ ساخنة وسطَ الصَّيحاتِ الحادَّةِ للسُّنونوات أو في قلب الرِّيح الغماميَّة، ثقيلةً جدَّاً، عاليةً جدَّاً، في أبراجها الأثيريَّة. أحدٌ ما يفكِّرُ في الموتِ؟ أحدٌ ما يصلِّي؟ لعلَّ هنالك مَنْ ما يزال في حاجةٍ إلى هذا، ولعلَّها تصنعُ لأجل ذلك إرناناتِها. أنا لم أعد في حاجةٍ إلى هذا، لأنَّني في كلِّ هُنيهةٍ أموت، وأولَدُ من جديدٍ ومن دون ذكريات: حيَّاً ومكتملاً، لا داخلَ كينونتي بعد الآن، ولكنْ، في كلِّ شيءٍ خارجَها.
