فكرة هذا الكتاب "نقد نقد العقل العربي، نظرية العقل" تأتت بعد أن شاءت الصدفة أن تقع يد جورج طرابيشي على الأصل الأجنبي لشاهد كان وظفه الجابري في إسناد أطروحاته في كتابه "تكوين العقل العربي"، حيث شده طرابيشي لما وجد في روح وحرفية الأصل الأجنبي، معاً، والذي كانا ينطقان بعكس ما يقوله الجابري. فاندفع للبحث حيث لم يجد بين مئات شواهد الجابري في "تكوين العقل العربي" سوى قلة قليلة ما أصابها تحريف أو تزييف أو توظيف بعكس منطوقها. ومن ثم ارتد نحو "تكوين العقل العربي" ليقرأه بعين جديدة وبمحاسبة نقدية صارمة، وعندئذ اكتشف أن الزيف يكمن في الإشكاليات التي طرحها الجابري نفسها، وليس فقط في تعزيزاتها وحيثياتها من الشواهد. وعلى هذا رأت النور فكرة هذا المشروع لنقد النقد الذي يضع أول أجزائه بين يدي القارئ والذي جاء تحت عنوان "نظرية العقل" وهو الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته، محتكماً بدوره إلى حسّ القارئ النقدي فربما لاحت في الأفق لمحات نقد آخر.
