ولدت في القاهرة، حاصلة على بكالوريوس «معهد الإرشاد السياحي» في عام 1972 عملت كمذيعة ب«إذاعة الشرق الاوسط»، وهي رئيسة مجلس إدارة الشركة العربية للإنتاج والتوزيع السينمائي، تأثرت بوالدها الذي كان من الضباط الأحرار وقد عمل والدها صحفياً في «مؤسسة روز اليوسف»، عملت في بداية حياتها كمذيعة باذاعة الشـرق الأوسط، ثم دخلت المجال التمثيلي وعملت في العديد من الأعمال المسرحية والتليفزيونية والسينمائية، قامت بتأليف المسلسل بكيزة وزغلول والذي لاقى نجاح عالمي غير مسبوق بالاشتراك مع الفنانة سهير البابلي كما قامت بكتابة السيناريو والحوار لنفس القصة لتكون فيلما سينمائيًا باسم ليلة القبض على بكيزة وزغلول، كونت شركة للإنتاج السينمائي.
تزوجت من الفنان «نبيل الهجرسي»، ثم تزوجت من رجل الأعمال الأردني «علاء الخواجة» ولها من الأبناء «نورهان»، «عمر».
