الرواية تتناول حياة بليغ حمدى وتقاطعها مع حكاية الراوى الذى يكتب عنه، مطارداً بين الهوس ومحاولة تقصى أثر سيرة هذا الموسيقار الكبير، حيث يلملم الكاتب "طلال فيصل" تفاصيل صغيرة من الشوارع والوثائق التاريخية، ومن حكايات من عاصروا الموسيقار وقصة حبه الشهيرة لوردة الجزائرية، وكذلك نهايته المأساوية؛ ليصنع منها بنيانًا روائيًا محكمًا. هذا وتدور الكثير من أحداث الرواية بين باريس ومصر، بين فترة ما بعد ثورة يوليو وفترة إقامة بليغ فى باريس عام 1984.
وروايته هذه هى استكمال لما بدأه طلال فيصل فى رواية "سرور" قبل ذلك، حيث محاولة تقديم النوع الفني المعروف برواية السيرة، والتى تستخدم تفاصيل حقيقية ووثائق لشخصية حقيقية من التاريخ المعاصر، وتستخدمها فى بناء رواية تنتمى للبحث التاريخي وللوقائع الحقيقية، بقدر ما تنتمى لخيال كاتبها ورؤيته.
