السير جيمس ماثيو باري (بالإنجليزية: James Matthew Barrie ) وهو حامل درجة البارونيتية الأولى (رتبة وراثية أو درجة شرف تحت البارون وفوق الفارس) ولد في 9 آذار 1860- وتوفي في 19 حزيران 1937. هو كاتب عمومي وكاتب مسرحي. وهو معروف بكتابته حول شخصية بيتر بان، وهو الصبي الذي رفض أن يكبر، واستوحى كتابته من الأطفال الذي كان وصيا عليهم، وهم أطفال لولين دافيز. ويعود الفضل له في شيوع اسم ويندي، الذي سمى به بطلة بيتر بان.

نشرت " بيتربان" او "الصبي الذي لا يكبر ابدا" اول مرة عام 1904 وقد كتبها باري تخليداً لذكرى اخيه الذي مات في حادثة تزلج قبل بلوغه الرابعة عشر وظلت امه تراه صبياً للأبد.
صار بيتر منذئذ ايقونة لليفاع البراءة، وهذا ما دفع جيمس ماثيو باري الى تكليف النحات جورج فرامتن بصنع تماثيل لبيتر نصب ليلاً في كنغزتن غاردن، ليكون مفاجأة لأفال لندن في اجازة اول من مايو، وتخليداً للصبي الذي لا يعرف الهرم بطريقة اخرى.
البلاد التي يأتي منها بيتر هي بلاد الاحلام نفرلاند، التي اتينا منها كلنا ذات يوم، ونسيناها في اللحظة التي كففنا فيها عن الايمان بالاحلام وغبار الجنيات وبقدرتنا على التحليق عالياً.
