قضى مجموعة من الأشخاص معظم ليلتهم يحاولون إنقاذ دب أسود عالق على ارتفاع خمسين أو ستين قدمًا فوق شجرة صنوبر في كييثفيل، بولاية لويزيانا، ليتمكنوا من نقله إلى منطقة حياة برية. وقد تجمع مندوبو الشرطة ومراقبو الصيد وعلماء الأحياء البرية لما يقرب من ثماني ساعات. وأطلق طبيب بيطري سهامًا مخدرة نحو الحيوان ليرديه أرضًا. ونُصبت شبكة للإمساك بالدب عند سريان مفعول المخدر وسقوطه من فوق الشجرة. ولم يكتشف المتطوعون إلا بعدما قطعوا الشجرة أنهم كانوا ينقذون كيس قمامة ممزقًا بالسهام.
كثير من الباعة يعتقدون أن لديهم "دبًا" فوق الشجرة بينما ليس هناك في الحقيقة سوى حزمة من "القمامة". يمكنك سماعهم يقولون أشياء مثل:
"المنافسة في هذا الجزء من البلاد لهذا المنتج شديدة للغاية.. نحن في وسط الركود … لا أحد يهتم سوى بالسعر فقط -ولا شيء غيره- فقط "من حصل على أفضل صفقة؟" … لن يشتري الناس المنتجات المحلية (الأجنبية) بعد الآن … لن يجدي إتمام البيع نفعًا؛ شروط الإقراض صارمة وسوف ترفض شركة التمويل طلبنا … الاقتصاد في هذه المدينة متهالك … مع هذه النسبة من البطالة، لا أعرف كيف توقعوا مني تحقيق حصة مبيعاتي!".
