يستعرض هذا الكتاب حياة وأعمال "الشهروردي" وهو شهاب الدين أبو الفتوح يحي بن حبش بن أميركا (الأمير الصغير) السهروردي (ولد سنة 1154 – وتوفي سنة 1191م)، صوفي، فيلسوف، وشاعر قتل بسبب آراءه الجريئة في عصره ولقب بالمقتول.
في هذا العمل دأب المؤلف الدكتور كامل مصطفى الشيبي إلى جمع مئة وخمسة وأربعين بيتاً من اشعار السهروردي، وهي تصب في بحر الروحانيات والتطلع إلى المثل الأعلى وما إلى ذلك من أغراض الصوفية الفلسفية التي اجتمعت في شخص السهروردي فمن ذلك قوله:
إليك إشاراتي ، وأنت الذي أهوى / وأنت حديثي بين أهل الهوى يُرى ، وأنت مراد العاشقين بأسرهم / فطوبى لقلبٍ ذاب فيك من البلوى .
