يعمل سينتارو في متجر لبيع فطائر الدوراياكي يقع في قلب طوكيو. تنقلب حياته رأساً على عقب عندما يوظف توكي، السيدة العجوز ذات الأصابع المشوهة التي سوف تعلّمه كيف يعدّ حشوة فطائره بحب وإتقان، إلى أن يصبح متجره مقصداً لذواقي هذه الحلوى اليابانية التقليدية. لكن توكي كانت تخفي سراً لا يمكن الإفصاح عنه، فاختفت من دون سابق إنذار مثلما ظهرت فجأة، تاركة لسينتارو عبرة سترافقه مدى الحياة.
'ملذات طوكيو' هي رواية مؤثرة وشاعرية تدور حول آلام الأجساد والقلوب، وحول الحب والعطف الصمود. ولكنها قبل كل شيء حكاية لقاء غير متوقع بين شخصين يتشابهان أكثر مما يظنان، على الرغم من اختلاف عمريهما وتطلعاتهما.
إنها رواية رائعة، ووليمة تلتهم دون اعتدال!
