جوستاف فلوبير (بالفرنسية: Gustave Flaubert)؛ (12 ديسمبر 1821 - 8 مايو 1880)، روائي فرنسي، درس الحقوق، ولكنه عكف على التأليف الأدبي. أصيب بمرض عصبي جعله يمكث طويلاً في كرواسيه. كان أول مؤلف مشهور له: « التربية العاطفية » (1843 – 1845)، ثم « مدام بوفاري » 1857 التي تمتاز بواقعيتها وروعة أسلوبها، والتي أثارت قضية الأدب المكشوف. ثم تابع تأليف رواياته المشهورة، منها: « سالامبو » 1862، و« تجربة القديس أنطونيوس » 1874، ويعتبر فلوبير مثلاً أعلى للكاتب الموضوعي، الذي يكتب بأسلوب دقيق، ويختار اللفظ المناسب والعبارة الملاءمة وقد كانت علاقته بكاوتشوك هانم دعته إلى السفر إلى مصر ومنها إلى اسنا وقد التقاها بالقرب من خان الشناقره أو وكالة شنقير ومعبد اسنا

رواية للأديب الفرنسي"جوستاف فلوبير"، ضمن مختارات من الأدب العالمي للشَّباب، إعداد وتقديم، (2018م)، تتكوَّن الرواية من: القسم الأوَّل(15 فصلًا)، القسم الثاني ( 27 فصلًا)، القسم الثالث: (15 فصلًا)،
بالإضافة إلي مقدمة تتضمَّن السيرة الذاتية والأدبية للروائي.
تكتشف إيما بوفاري، زوجة طبيب ريفي، أن حقيقة زواجها الممل مستحيل قبولها، فيما بعد، وخيالها مليء بأحلام الحب والعاطفة، تبحث عن الإثارة التي قرأت عنها في الروايات في سلسلة علاقات ممنوعة هي، في الحقيقة، غير مرضية كعلاقتها بزوجها.
مدام بوفاري قصة زوجة غير مخلصة، لكنها أيضاً دراسة كاشفة لحياة بشرية وهجوم على القواعد الخالية من المعنى ومواقف مجتمع الطبقة الوسطى، استغرق الكتاب من فلوبير خمس سنوات لكتابته وظهر أخيراً في أجزاء في جريدة ريفودي باريس في 1856، وقد أدى إنتباه فلوبير للتفاصيل في وصفه القوي لسايكولوجية وأفعال الناس العاديين إلى تسمية كثير من الناس لــ مدام بوفاري بأنه عمل عظيم من أعمال الواقعية.
مع هذا، فكرت الحكومة الفرنسية تفكيراً مختلفاً، وقد أحضرت المؤلف ليمثل أمام المحكمة بسبب ما دعته لا أخلاقية الكتاب، وكاد فلوبير أن يُرسَل إلى السجن لكتابته الرواية.
