يمثّل كتاب "بدر شاكر السيّاب؛ قراءة أخرى" مدخلاً للتعرُّف على تجربة الشاعر بدر شاكر السيّاب مع المدينة وموقفه/ مواقفه منها، ويسعى لتقديم صورة عن ذلك بمقدار ما تهيّأ للباحثة من مادةٍ تتعلق بذلك، متّخذةً من النصّ الشعري للسيّاب منهلاً وموجّهاً لدراستها في كثير من الأحيان.
أثَّرت عوامل عديدة في تشكيل رؤية الشاعر للمدينة، فالتجربة الواقعية وعُمق المعاناة فيها، ومدى وعيه الفروق بين عالم المدينة وعالم القرية، والظروف الاجتماعيّة والنفسيّة المؤثِّرة في تكوين شخصيته، تدخَّلَت في تشكيل الصورة وتكوينها، فاختلفَت الصُّوَر باختلاف هذه العوامل.
كذلك أثَّرت الرومانسية التي صدر عنها بعض الشعراء في تشويه صورة المدينة. ولنا أن نتصوَّر مدى هذا التشويه، إذا أدركنا أنّ هذه الأشعار صدَرَت عن شعراء كانوا في مُقتبل العمر، وفي بداية تجاربهم، فكانت المدينة، في نظرهم، عالماً يقف في وجه طموحاتهم.
وقد رأى السيّاب، وبوحيٍ مِن هذه الرومانسية أنّ علاقة المدينة بالقرية، هي علاقة تضادّ وتنافر، ورآها مِن منظار ابن الريف الحديث العهد بالمدينة. وتأثَّرت الصورة بما عاناه من إحباطات عدّة، أساسها صراعٌ بين القيم: بين الذات والمجموع، بين الحريّة والسلطة، بين التنافس الحادّ والمحبّة الأخويّة، ولم يملك إزاءها إلا التعبير عن هذا الوضع وعن هذا النفور بحدَّة ومبالغة، ولعلّ هذه النظرة السوداء جعلته يركِّز على العيوب.
