هذه سيرة حياة لا دراسة نقد وتقييم، وهي في ذلك لا يفصلها عن بلوغ الغاية إلا حدود الكمال، أنت فيها أمام رجل عاش ومات كما عاش صاحبها ومات: رجل أحب الحب فأحب الحياة، وقضى وفي نفسه حسرة من كليهما، فكانت الحياة وكيف ينعم بها، والحب وكيف يكون من نصيبه، والموت وكيف ينجو منه، موضوع حياته وشعره، وهو ما تراه واضحاً كثير الوضوح، في هذه السيرة، فهناك فقرة وافتقار إلى الحسن، في مجتمع ظالم يحتقر الفقر ويؤخذ بظاهر الجسد، ولدفع الظلم والفقر رفض وتشيع، وللتعويض عن افتقاره إلى الحسن صقل شاعريته ما استطاع وشهرها في سبيل الحنان والحب.
أما شيوعيته فاستنفذت ذاتها، وأما شاعريته، فما إن ترعرعت حتى ركبه الداء وانتعلته الهموم، فتمرغ فرغماً على الأعتات. وظل الأجمل فيه شغفه بالجديد وانفتاح صدره على المدهش والمستحيل من كل شيء فعاش كأنما إلى الأبد، شروقاً يلاحقه الغروب. وكان، حين تلقاه، شبح فارس في بريق الظلمة، تتأمله، فإذا الجراح العربية وقد لفها الضماد.
جاءه الموت بطيئاً، وإذن ظالماً ورهيباً في وقت معاً، كلما أمعن في الصمود، أمعن الموت في الحقد والتشفي، فما سقط القلم من يده، حتى أسقط الموت كل شيء فيه ما عدا الروح. فكان كمن حياته ممات، ومماته حياده. "بدر شاكر السياب" في حياته وموته، مأساة يخضها عيسى بلاط في هذا الكتاب الذي يتحدث فيه عن الشاعر ومسيرته مع المرض التي بدأت منذ أن شكا من ساقيه، ثم تباطأ بهما، ثم حملهما، بدل أن تحملاه إلى يومه الأخير، وكما تساءل "أيوب" وتحير وتذمر، ولم يكفر، كذلك فعل بدر، ولئن كوفئ أيوب على صبره، فهل يكافأ بدر؟ وبماذا يكافأ؟ هل ترد إليه صحته وحياته، وأملاكه ومقتنياته ولم يكن له منها ما يرد؟ بلى ذكراه فستبقى في تاريخ الشعر العربي ما بقي هذا الشعر.
