هذا الكتاب تتويج لجهود مؤلفه وتجاريبه في الترجمة، وهو في أقسام أربعة:
الأوّل، إضاءات عامّة عن الترّجمة معنًى وقَدامة، عند العرب وغيرهم، وأهميّة ودواعيَ وشـروطاً وأنواعاً وطرائق؛ وعمّا يجب توافره من شـروط في المترجم الحقّ ووظائفه الدقيقة.
والثّاني للتجارب، وهو محصور بصلتي أنا نفسـي بالترجمة وقصّتي معها، وإجراءاتي ومعاييري فيها من خلال ما ترجمت منفرداً أو مشاركاً.
والثالث، تطبيقات اكتفيت منها بترجمة نموذجين اثنين اصطفيتهما من كتاب «دمى باخيام» للباحث الإيراني الخيّامي الثّبْت علي دشتي: أحدهما عشـرون رباعيّة مقرونة بأصولها الفارسـية من رباعيّات الخيّام التي قد يكون ظنّ الأصالة فيها كبيراً؛ والآخِر مبحث مهمّ عنوانه «عمر الخيّام عند المستشـرقين»، لأنه يلقي ضوءاً نقديّاً ساطعاً على جهود خمسة من المستشـرقين الكبار في دراسة الخيّام وترجمة مختارات من رباعيّاته. وهم: الإنجليزي إدوارد فيتزجرالد Edward Fitzgerald، والدّانماركي آرثركريستنسن Arthur Christensen، والألماني فرديرخ (أو فردريش) روزن Friedrich Rosen، والرّوسـي فالنتين ﮊوكوﭬـسكي V. A. Zhukovsky، والفرنسـي ﭘـيير ﭘـاسكال Pierre Pascal.
فأمّا الأخير، فموقوف حصراً على نقد ترجمة خمسة دواوين للشّاعرة الكويتيّة الدكتورة سعاد الصّباح تُرجمت إلى الفارسـية، هي: امرأة بلا سواحل، وفتافيت امرأة، وفي البدء كانت الأُنثى، وخذني إلى حدود الشّمس، وقصائد حُبّ.
