عبد الغني بن إسماعيل بن عبد الغني النابلسي الدمشقي الحنفي (1050 هـ - 1143 هـ / 1641 - 1731م) شاعر شامي وعالم بالدين والأدب ورحالة مكثر من التصنيف. ولد ونشأ وتصوف في دمشق. قضى سبع سنوات من عمره في دراسة كتابات "التجارب الروحيّة" لِفُقهاء الصوفية. وقد تعدّدت رحلاته عبر العالم الإسلامي، إلى إسطنبول ولبنان والقدس وفلسطين ومصر والجزيرة العربية وطرابلس وباقي البلاد السورية. استقر في مدينته دمشق وتوفي فيها.

كان علم التعبير للرؤيا من العلوم الرفيعة المقام، وكان الأنبياء صلى الله عليهم وسلم يعدونها من الوحي إليهم في شرائع الأحكام، وقد ذهبت النبوة وبقيت المبشرات، الرؤيا الصالحة يراها الرجل أو تُرى له في المنام على حسب ما ورد في حديث الرسول محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم. جمع المؤلف في هذا المعجم خلاصة ما كتبه الأقدمين كابن سرين وابن شاهين في تفسير الأحلام بالإضافة إلى ذلك تمّمه بما جاء عند ابن سيرين في مختصره. فجاء المؤلف جامعاً في تفاسيره مرتباً حسب حروف المعجم، ليسهل التناول منه على كل إنسان. وقد بدأه بمقدمة مختصرة جامعة، وضمّنه كمّاً هاماً من تفاسير الرؤيا.
وزيادة في الإيضاح تم إلحاق الكتاب الأصل والذي قلنا سابقاً "تعطير الأنام في تعبير المنام" بكتاب آخر مسمى منتخب الكلام في تفسير الأحلام للأمام "محمد بن سيرين" وهذا الكتاب الأخير لهو من أبرز المصادر التي استقى منها الشيخ النابلسي مادة كتابه تعطير الأنام.
