لماذا نتوق دائماً إلى إعادة إحياء الماضي؟ هل كنّا لنتمسّك بهذا الماضي إذا كان محموماً بالجراح؟ وإلى أيّ حدٍّ يمكننا الوثوق بذكرياتنا؟.
روايتان قصيرتان* تتعمّقان في مفهوم الهوية والذاكرة اللاإرادية المبنيّة على الحواس، وتطرحان تساؤلاً عميقاً: هل من الأفضل أن نتذكّر أم أن ننسى؟
في الرواية الأولى، (العاصفة) يطغى البحر ونساء البحر... ولكنه بحرٌ لا يسمح بالنسيان. إليه يعود الصحفي فيليب كيو، الذي أُدين بجريمة لم يرتكبها لكنه شهدها أمام عينيه، بحثاً عن صُلحٍ ممكن مع الماضي. يلتقي شابّة بلا أب تذكّره بالمرأة التي عاش معها هناك، في جزيرة أودو الكورية المحاذية لبحر اليابان قبل ثلاثين عاماً، وشهد أيضاً على مشهد غيابها الأبدي في البحر. وبين صوت الشابة "جون" وصوت الصحفي "فيليب"، يسود صمتٌ مملوءٌ بكلّ شيء سوى الفراغ.
في الرواية الثانية، "امرأة مجهولة الهوية"، يبرز صوت "راشيل"، الفتاة التي اكتشفت ذات شجارٍ بين أهلها، سرّاً هائلاً بلبل كيانها. تقرّر راشيل التزام الصمت، وتنتقل مع عائلتها إثر إفلاس الأب واندلاع الحرب في ساحل غانا، إلى باريس حيث تهيم بين شوارع العاصمة الفرنسية وساحاتها، لتولد من جديد في السطر الأخير.
روايتان تختلفان في الأحداث والأبطال، وتجمعهما خيوطٌ خفيّة تُترك للقارئ متعة اكتشافها.
