حث النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم على تعلمه حيث قال : " تعلموا العلم وعلموا الناس و تعلموا الفرائض و علموها الناس، و تعلموا القرآن وعلموه الناس فإني امرؤ مقبوض، و العلم سيقبض و تظهر الفتن، حتى يختلف اثنان في فريضة لا يجدان أحدا يفصل بينهما"، و قال صلى الله عليه و سلم " العلم ثلاثة و ما سوى ذلك فهو فضل آية محكمة أو سنة قائمة أو فريضة عادلة " .
و قد اهتم الصحابة بالفرائض و كان أشهرهم زيد ابن ثابت.
