معجم مصطلحات البترول والصناعة النفطية مرجع موثق شامل لمصطلحات البترول وتقنيات الصناعة النفطية وما يتصل بها من العلوم النظرية والتكنولوجيا التطبيقية، يسد الثغرة القائمة بين مصطلحات صناعة الزيت والصناعات الأخرى ويسهل مهمة العاملين في صناعة النفط العربية وصناعة الزيت عامة، ويضاهي في دقته وشموله ومنهجيته أوسع المعاجم الأوروبية المختصة وأحداثها.
وهو يضم بين طياته 45 ألف مصطلح و 1150 صورة ورسماً إيضاحياً يغطي مختلف نواحي الصناعة النفطية بدءاً من أعمال المسح الاستطلاعي والتنقيب والحفر حتى عمليات التكرير والتصنيع والتسويق والاستهلاك.
ويحتوي إلى جانب هذا على أدق المرادفات العربية التي روعي فيها التقيد ما أمكن بالمصطلحات التي أقرتها مجامع اللغة العربية في القاهرة ودمشق وبغداد أو بما رشحته المؤتمرات والمؤسسات العلمية المتخصصة، أو مما وضعناه لها من ألفاظ كلها محققة بالرجوع إلى أشهر المعاجم والمؤلفات الإنكليزية والفرنسية في شتى فروع صناعة النفط.
وزيادة في الإيضاح تم تشكيل الألفاظ العربية الواردة فيه، أما المرادفات المستجدة المشتبهة فتم تعزيزها بشرح موجز منعاً لكل التباس، أما المختصرات الحرفية الشائعة في صناعة النفط والمؤلفات الدورية التي تعالج شؤون البترول فأدرجت كمداخل في صلب المعجم، وكذلك التعابير العامية الدارجة في إنكليزية العاملين صناعة النفط أو بخاصة في أعمال التنقيب والحفر، خدمة للمراجع والباحث والطالب العربي,
إلى جانب هذا كله تم تعزيز المعجم بعشرات الجداول الجيولوجية والفيزيائية والكيماوية والهندسية وبوحدات القياس وتحويلاتها والاختصارات العلمية وهذا مما لا يستغني عنه العاملون المختصون والمترجمون والمثقفون والطلاب في هذا العصر الذي أصح الوعي البترولى إحدى أشهر مميزاته.
