الجهضمي (200 - 282 هـ = 815 - 896 م)
إسماعيل بن إسحاق بن إسماعيل بن حماد بن زيد الجهضمي الأزدي: فقيه على مذهب مالك، جليل التصانيف، من بيت علم وفضل.
قال ابن فرحون: (كان بيت آل حماد بن زيد على كثرة رجالهم وشهرة أعلامهم من أجل بيوت العلم في العراق، وهم نشروا مذهب الإمام مالك هناك وعنهم أُخذ، فمنهم من أئمة الفقه ورجال الحديث عدة كلهم جلة ورجال سنة، تردد العلم في طبقاتهم وبيتهم نحو ثلاث مئة عام.
ولد في البصرة واستوطن بغداد.
وكان من نظراء المبرد.
وولي قضاء بغداد والمدائن والنهروانات، ثم ولي قضاء القضاة إلى أن توفي فجأة، ببغداد.
وكان موته هو الباعث للمبرد على تأليف كتابه (التعازي والمراثي - خ) كما قال في مقدمته.
من تآليفه (الموطأ) و (أحكام القرآن) و (المبسوط) في الفقه، و (الرد على أبي حنيفة) و (الرد على الشافعي) في بعض ما أفتيا به، و (الاموال والمغازي) و (شواهد الموطأ) عشر مجلدات، و (الأصول) و (السنن) و (الاحتجاج بالقرآن) مجلدان.
