قال عنه الحافظ ابن كثير - رحمه الله - في البداية والنهاية: " المشهور بالتصانيف الكثيرة، النافعة، الشائعة، الذائعة في الرقائق وغيرها، وكان صدوقاً، حافظاً، ذا مروءة ".

وإذا تحدث "ابن أبي الدنيا" عن "مجابي الدعوة" فلتسمع له الدنيا!
وأسمع صدى صوت شاعر يسعفني بنصيحته الغالية:
فتشبهوا إن لم تكونوا مثلهم... إن التشبه بالرجال فلاح
فهيا إلى "مجابي الدعوة" وضعوا أقدامكوا على طريق السالكين، وحي على الفلاح!
