في روايتها "موسم سقوط الفراشات" تسلط الروائية عتاب أحمد شبيب الضوء على الوجه السلبي للتحول السياسي في سورية في الآونة الأخيرة، فتنهض الوقائع المروية، المتذكرة والمتخيلة، بين الأعوام الخمسة للثورة، حيث تدور أحداث الرواية في معسكر للجيش السوري، ومن لحظة سردية يبدأ فيها المجند (نزار) يروي تفاصيل ذلك اليوم الذي بدأ ورفاقه بالحفر لانتشال خمسة عشرة جثة، ومن بين تلك الوجوه التي انتشلها من المقبرة الجماعية؛ وجه كاد قلبه أن يتخلع من مكانه لرؤيته إنها ملامح زوجته، فبدأ يكتب "متى تصحو البلاد من كابوسها؟" من هذا الكتاب تدخل الروائية إلى الذاكرة السورية، تلملمها، ترفو ثقوبها، وترمم تصدعاتها وتصوغ الحكاية؛ من واقع متفلت تختلط فيه رائحة الجثث برائحة النار. هي رحلة الإنسان السوري بين الرحم والقبر، جاءت عبر إحالات تمتعت بنسيج لغوي متين، يناسب الحقبة التاريخية التي تتحدث عنها والرسالة التي أرادت البعث بها ...
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"... أي جنون هذا الذي عاشه نزار منذ المقبرة الجماعية وحتى اللحظة!
تكون كجنين بلا حياة على الأرض، وغاب حتى اتصل غيابه بالنوم.
لم يدرِ كم مضى عليه وهو نائم حين أيقظه رنين هاتفه الجوال وكل ما حدث منذ اللحظة التي استيقظ فيها نزار، وكل ما سمعه ودونه يدخل في باب الجنون الذي أصيب به الوطن، جنون جدير بأقدارنا، نحن الذين فتحنا أبواب بيوتنا للوثة الموت والفراق، إنها طريقتي للتنصل من مأزق الحكاية، يحدث لبعض الحكايات أن تكون ورطة حين يتعلق الأمر بوطن".
استمر ينقل خمس عشرة جثة يا للتبذير خمس عشرة حياة انفقت دفعة واحدة ودفنوا معاً في حفرة واحدة دون مراعاة لحساسية بعضهم من النوم قرب الغرباء.
